Den Gamle By, translates to The Old Town. It is an open-air town museum located in the Aarhus, Denmark. It is a feature at the Aarhus Botanical Gardens. It is one of the best museums outside of Copenhagen and is visited by 400,000 visitors per year. It features 75 historical buildings which have been moved from 20 communities. The buildings are open to visitors and decorate with the historical items from the appropriate era.
The buildings are half-timbered structures from 1550 to the late 19th century. There are kitchens, diners, 34 workshops, 10 grocery shops, 5 historical gardens, a customs office, post office, school and theatre. Allowing the visitors to experience an authentic functioning town from that era.
