Vancouver Rental Crisis
The Vancouver rental crisis needs to change.
Local Artist, AK Nielsen, is unveiling her “Homeless in Vancouver” 3D artwork.
Where: at Pacific Arts Market ( upstairs 1448 W Broadway)
When: On Nov 26th at 3PM,
The art is to bring attention to the rental problems. The art depicts a homing pigeon holding a key that has a tag on it saying ‘no vacancy’. The rental problem is so bad says Nielsen that “Soon even a pigeon won’t be able to find a home.” The art depicts a derelict place with a broken window, and sign saying ‘No Vacancy’. Nearby a sign on a window says “1 bedroom $3750.”
“We disallow inequality on so many levels based on human rights, but somehow being able to have a place to call home, is becoming considered a luxury – not a need. These problems occur because politicians are reactive, not proactive.” It is a problem that is serious and needs solutions now – not five years from now.

Art can be used to evoke emotions, to get attention and to create change. There is no issue that needs addressing more than the Vancouver rental crisis. Even working people are falling into homeless. Seniors are becoming homeless because they cannot rent something affordable.
