Bald Eagle in Flight, reminds me of the times I have sat by the river at Brakendale watching the mighty bald eagles coming and going.  Nature lovers and outdoors enthusiasts love to enjoy this type of scene.

The deep green tones in the trees and caste of the yellow sunset gives a feeling of a lovely day, and is an interesting part of this image. The bald eagle takes the center stage and provides an element of surprise.

The vibrant green tones in the trees gives a feeling of a lovely day, and is an interesting part of this image. The baby blue water provides an element of surprise.

When I completed this series of watercolor paintings I did a slightly Gestalt approach. I randomly painted 12 backgrounds and then made some blotches of contrasting color and then came back a third time to add enough detail to give the piece some detail. It was an experiment to help me learn to paint more loosely.

There is a beauty in nature that seems to evolve even when, as an artist, I am less intentional and do not start with any clear vision of where the piece of art will go.

I worked for a First Nations Government office for a while. While I worked there I learned the meaning First Nations peoples give to this mighty bird. Although it is also iconic for Americans as their national bird, it it the First Nations traditions that make the bald eagle interesting to me.
